Parents and spectators are responsible for their conduct and actions at games and functions. Parents and spectators may be ejected from any game or event by an on ice official after ONE warning if they continue to display the use of obscene or profane language, or gestures to ANY person on or off the ice surface. The matter and names involved shall be reported to the Discipline Committee of the QDMHA who may assess further penalties to the parent or spectator. Second and/or subsequent offences may result in a ban from the arena for up to TWO (2) calendar years.
Communications Protocol
The following is an overview of the stages of communication between parents and the QDMHA. It is expected that problems will be resolved where they originate.
STEP ONE: Try to resolve the issue at the team level by beginning with the coach and/or team manager. Be respectful, set a specific appointment to see the parties in questions, seek mutual understanding, explore together possible solutions, establish actions etc with times and dates to review the progress. If still not successful, move to STEP TWO.
STEP TWO: Make an appointment to meet one on one with the age division director to resolve the issue. Review what has happened in STEP ONE, set up a plan, and try at all possible to resolve the problem at the team level with the coach and/or manager. If actions have not been successful, only then move to STEP THREE.
STEP THREE: Contact the VP of House Teams or the VP of Rep Teams and set up an appointment to meet one on one. Identify the concern and action that have been previously taken in STEPS ONE and TWO. The VP of House Teams or the VP of REP Teams will meet with parties concerned to review the issue(s), the processes involved and suggest methods to meet and resolve the issue(s). Set up dates and action plans to be followed. If not successful at STEP THREE, only then move to STEP FOUR.
STEP FOUR: Contact the President of QDMHA and set up an appointment to meet one on one. Review the issues and actions taken to date. The President will meet with the parties concerned to explore options available and attempt to resolve the issue(s) with all parties concerned. If not successful, only then proceed to STEP FIVE.
STEP FIVE: Contact the Secretary of the QDMHA. Every parent or player shall be entitled to appeal a decision after going through the previous four steps. Every appeal must be commenced by filing a written notice of appeal seven (7) days before an Executive meeting. The written appeal must contain: the name address and phone number(s) of the player, parent or guardian making the appeal; the decision which is being appealed and the date that the decision was transmitted to the appellant; the name(s) of the QDMHA member(s) making the decision under appeal; and, grounds for the appeal and relief sought. The Executive may call a special meeting or address the appeal at a regularly scheduled meeting. The Executive shall provide copies of their report to the President of the QDMHA as well as the player, parent(s), or guardian(s).
STEP SIX: If the action plans have not been successful, the concerns may be appealed to the District Director of the BC Amateur Hockey Association.
